A hailstorm can cause damage ranging from slight to total in a sorghum crop. Research has been conducted to accurately predict the effects of this damage on sorghum yield. The results are used by hail insurance companies to assess yield losses and determine adjustments paid to clients. This publication describes procedures used to assess sorghum hail damage and may be useful in estimating crop yields wherever stand loss or defoliation occurs.
