Tree squirrels are known for their bushy tails and their ability to climb high in trees. The eastern fox squirrel is the most common tree squirrel in Nebraska and occurs statewide. The eastern gray squirrel lives in the deciduous forests along the Missouri River and in urban areas, while the southern flying squirrel exists only in the southeastern portion of Nebraska.
