Garden Chrysanthemums

Chrysanthemums are one of the most popular plants for late summer and fall flower gardens. Plant size can vary from a few inches to 3 to 4 feet tall. They develop best when they receive at least six hours of full sun per day.

Chrysanthemums should be planted after soil has been spaded to a depth of 8 to 12 inches. Organic material should be added to the soil. Plants can be fertilized with a complete garden fertilizer four weeks after planting and again just prior to floral bud opening.

Newly set chrysanthemum plants should be uniformly moist, not wet, during establishment. Shallow cultivation is desirable to keep weeds down. There are few insect/mite problems.
