Identify the nutrients of major concern for a horse's stage of production, age and/or activity. Purchase the most balanced diet that uses the most digestible ingredients and costs the least per unit of nutrient. Follow directions - do not attempt to reduce overhead costs by diluting a balanced concentrate mix or supplement with cheaper feedstuff or product. Doing so may create nutrient deficiencies and interactions that could be detrimental to the horse.
