Soybean Aphid Speed Scouting Spreadsheet

Wayne J. Ohnesorg, Extension Educator, Thomas E. Hunt, Extension Entomologist, and Robert J. Wright, Extension Entomologist

If you’re interested in using a mobile device to help with speed scouting for soybean aphids, download the Soybean Aphid Speed Scouting Excel® Spreadsheet. It can be used in the field on mobile devices to help you record data and immediately view management recommendations.

The speed scouting method is different from traditional scouting in that it relies on the number of “infested” plants. Plants are considered “infested” if there are 40 or more aphids on the plant. No more having to try to count all the aphids on a plant to determine whether it has reached the threshold of 250 aphids per plant. This helps you quickly determine — yes or no — whether the plant has 40 aphids and would be considered “infested.” It then recommends further scouting or treatment options based on the number of “infested” plants in a given area.

This soybean management tool was developed by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln based on information from:
