There are 50 mosquito species in Nebraska. Mosquito larvae require a wet or moist environment to develop. Mosquitoes are vectors of many debilitating human diseases, including malaria, yellow fever, and West Nile Virus. The most important element in mosquito control is drainage or removal of standing water. Personal repellents or environmental insecticidal control may be appropriate in some situations.
