Fairs and shows are enjoyable activities for many people, and it is important to keep these events open and accessible to exhibitors and the public. It is equally imporant that exhibitors understand what measures need to be taken to prevent the spread of disease among animals and people.

In 2001, outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in the United Kingdom and pseudorabies in Nebraska resulted in costly economic consequences. Simple precautions can be taken before, during and after fairs to prevent disease.
